Color Worlds Diptych

I tried to create two very different moods by using bright, saturated colors on the left and calmer greens on the right

The Brevity of Emotion

With my final project, I wanted to show emotions through color and props that went along with the music that I chose.

New Munsell additions

Color sequences
We created harmonies by putting down the listed colors

Next we created a value scale using matte and glossy chips

Starting the diptych

Our 4th project is to create a diptych. I plan to paint a scene that compares natural with man-made.

I chose to go with a triadic and monochromatic color scheme, the one on the left using the monochrome palette and the one on the right using the triadic palette.

Intergalactic

I was inspired by these bright colors from my triadic color scheme to give my project a space and galaxy feel by using shapes that mimic stars, planets, and Jupiter's ring. I think that by simply rotating the large, thin, red purple shape I created an almost three dimensional affect that gives the animation an unexpected element.

Munsell Color Charts

Transparency Effect
In this exercise we were to place chips that were a certain color that would allow the lines of color to look as of they were overlapping.

Color Control
Second, we were to use chips in a way that would converg unity and balance. I choose to work with a complementary color scheme and an analogous color scheme

Harmonious and Balanced Color Groups
Lastly, we did an exercise similar to the previous one. This time we had to do specific color groups like split complementary and tetrad. I found this exercise rather difficult because many of my chips were used in other activites.

Color Munipulation

Using color aid to create one collage and for color matching purposes for the digital project, we were to make one color appear as two and two colors appear as one.

One color as two (still needs some cleanup)

Two colors as one

Vibrating Edge

In this project we used two complementary colors to create visual dissonance and a vibrating edge.

Vibrating Edge

This is a work in progress for our Vibrating Edge project. I plan to adjust it after our critique in class.

Simultaneous Colors

In this assignment, we were to take two of the same color chip (5P 7/4 and 5GY 8/4) and note how the contrast of the two colors surrounding them change how our brains percieve the color of the chips.

Color Relations

Advancing and Receding Color
"When cool colors are placed next to or surrounding warm colors, the warm hues appear to be closer to the viewer."

Successive Contrast and Vibrating Boundaries
"A vibrating edge is seen when a vivid red is placed next to a vivid  blue-green of similar value and chroma."

Shade and Hue Scale and 9 Step Painting

For the first portion of this project, we were assigned to create a hue and shade scale ranging from white to black with the middle of the scale being the pure hue.

I also took this chance to fix up my yellow orange color wheel chip.

Next, we made a painting based off of a non representational photograph. I chose to do the same red again because I thought it would be easier to match the values to the scale that I already created.

Color Wheel and Value Scale

For our introduction into mixing colors, we were to create a 12 step color wheel and an 11 step value scale. I think all of the colors, with an exception to the purple shades, turned out pretty well!

Munsell Color Graph

We used the Munsell Student Color Textbook to start our exploration in color.
